Are there equations for Applied Science? Are students expected to memorise them?
Yes, there are equations for Applied Science. The full list of equations students should be familiar with for F180 are found in the data, formulae and relationships booklet in Appendix F of the specification. Students will be provided with this booklet in the exam. They should be able to use and manipulate these equations, but do not need to memorise them. A copy of the booklet can also be found on Teach Cambridge here. Should any other equations be necessary, these will be provided with the question in the exam paper.
We are teaching using the scheme of work but struggling to fit all the activities in. We are going to struggle to teach the content in the GLH given.
The specification is your guide to the amount you need to be teaching, including the depth and breadth column. Content in the specification for units F180 and F181 must be covered as it can all be examined.
The suggested hours in the scheme of work are for guidance only, fitting in with the expected GLH for each unit. Some areas may take longer than suggested, and some may take less time than suggested depending on the students, their prior knowledge, lesson length and timetable allocation, etc. The schemes of work have been written by teachers, providing a range of activities that can be chosen to suit your students’ needs. We understand that there will need to be flexibility in timing but as this can vary from school to school, and even between cohorts at times, we have had to make a best fit approach. You are welcome to reduce activities, change activities and change how much time you are spending on topic areas.
