History A has a very straightforward assessment structure, and candidates answer every question on the paper.
A good rough guide is to allow for 1 mark a minute. This should ensure that candidates leave themselves sufficient time to plan and answer the higher mark tariff questions.
It should not be necessary to spend more than 5 minutes on the 5 mark ‘Outline’ question, for example – it is not in any case possible to score more than 5 marks!
The Guide to Assessment on Teach Cambridge is also useful in this area.
