In order to achieve a Pass, candidates must satisfy all Pass criteria in a unit. For a Merit they need to satisfy all Pass and Merit criteria, and for a Distinction all assessment criteria need to be met.
Moving from Pass to Merit and into Distinction often requires candidates to undertake more advanced analytical work, or to synthesize information. It is not just presenting more information, but the ability to show a deeper understanding.
An evidence ‘checklist’ is provided at the end of each of Model Assignment. Candidates should refer to this when completing their assessment activities.
While tutors are not permitted to give candidates detailed feedback, they can remind them of what they have been taught and how this could be used to address higher-level assessment criteria.
Guidance on how tutors can provide feedback to candidates is published in Section 8 of the Certificate and Diploma Qualification Handbooks under “Feedback to learners”.
