One of the two sections to the recital – the second section, the focused study, is an extra piece that demonstrates the candidate fully understands their chosen instrument for that piece. It could be a piece specifically written or a piece that has been appropriately arranged.
So, for Section 1: At least two pieces, anything the candidate wishes. These will be marked holistically using the Section 1 marking criteria.
For Section 2: At least one other piece to be marked using the criteria for Section 2.
The marking criteria are available on our website for students and teachers to view.

This could mean that the student plays three different instruments. For example, Bass Guitar in a band, vocals in section 1, and a piano nocturne in Section 2.
Equally, a student could play one instrument throughout, identifying which piece will best achieve marks in section 2.
The options really are very open, deliberately.
