It is fine for students to prepare backgrounds etc. prior to their final exam as long as this does not constitute a large part of what they are going to submit for their final piece.

If a student is producing a large scale piece that constitutes several different elements – the teacher should document clearly what has been completed prior to the controlled hours. The work completed during the controlled hours should be clearly signposted.
