What if my students can’t get started on a task?
Refer to Section 6.3 and 6.7 of the Specification.
General guidance and support
Teachers can give general guidance and support if students are struggling to get started on an assignment task. For example, teachers could remind students that they had a lesson on a topic and could review their notes from this lesson and examples shared during that lesson. (See giving feedback for more information about generic advice that can be given.)
What if more specific guidance or support is needed?
If a teacher needs to give additional, more specific support or guidance to an individual student to get them started on a task, because they are struggling to start a task or part of a task that is critical to them accessing the rest of the task or assignment, this should be recorded by the teacher on the student’s work and/or Unit Recording Sheet (URS) for the OCR moderator to see. In this situation, the student should not be awarded marks for the work for which they’ve been helped, and marks should be adjusted appropriately. Recording this on the student’s work and/or URS will help the moderator to understand why the marks have not been awarded.
