Fieldwork will be assessed for GCSE Geography A within Component 03 (Physical and human fieldwork). The specification gives a list of six areas the students could be assessed on (p15) and in any one year at least two of the six listed fieldwork areas will be assessed. Students can be assessed on their own experiences of fieldwork as well as unfamiliar contexts.
The Sample Assessment Materials, Practice Papers, 2018, 2019, Nov 2020 and 2021 exam papers show examples of the examination questions, and the mark schemes outline what examiners are looking for. We have candidate exemplars with Principal Examiner commentary (2018 & 2019) to support your understanding of how the mark scheme was applied, where candidates have been successful and how they could improve their practice in the exams.
Please note if you use the November 2021 and summer 2022 assessment materials you will see that questions related to students' own fieldwork have been removed, this equated to 15 marks. This was in response to the pandemic period and the challenges with completing fieldwork ‘in the field’ during that time.
