AS and A Level Geography: Do the students need to rewrite their proposal form if their title changes?

If the student’s title is signed off by you as the teacher on their proposal form and they begin their investigation, as this is an enquiry process your students may find that their title evolves. This may depend on what they find out through the literature review and their data collection. If your student finds for example that one of their sub-questions becomes the focus of their investigation or they ‘tweak’ their title then they do not need to complete a new proposal form. It is important that your student explains this where relevant in their investigation and reflects on the changes in their investigation evaluation section. This will help the moderator understand their enquiry process and the reflections and alterations the student has made on their research / NEA journey.

If your student starts their investigation and finds that it is no longer viable i.e. they have found it too difficult to collect data or information relevant to their title or their literature review has not enabled them to develop their understanding sufficiently, then it might be that your student wants to ‘start again’. This would mean a brand new title potentially on a different part of the topic they initially started or an entirely different aspect of the A Level geography specification. Under these circumstances, we would expect the student to write and develop a new proposal form which would be signed off by you as the teacher.
