The marking criteria for the NEA can be found on p.44-47 of the specification. The NEA is assessed in relation to four key areas:
media language
representations
audience address
realisation of the brief and production detail
The NEA briefs include indicative content for each brief which should be used to assess the NEA in conjunction with the mark scheme. Further guidance on assessing the NEA component can be found in the Moderators’ Reports on previous series which are available on Teach Cambridge and in the following blog article: https://www.ocr.org.uk/blog/assessing-the-media-studies-nea-component-at-gcse-and-a-level/
We have also created a free e-learning course to support assessment of the NEA for GCSE Media Studies. This can be accessed by logging in to My Cambridge and selecting OCR Train.
