For our GCSE Media Studies (J200) specification, we are replacing some of the set products for first teaching in September 2023 and first assessment in 2025.
Following an internal review and feedback from teachers, we’re introducing set products which are more contemporary, engaging and diverse for students. The changes will also help us to maintain the validity and reliability of our assessments.
These changes are limited to set products for television and music video. We’ve chosen this level of change to make sure the new set products can be introduced and managed by teachers effectively.
For television, from September 2023 the set media products will be Vigil, season 1, episode 1, and The Avengers, season 4, ‘Gravediggers’.
For music video changes are being made to two of of the four set pairs of music videos for September 2023. Pair 2: Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk and Beyoncé – If I Were a Boy and Pair 3: The Vamps – Somebody To You ft. Demi Lovato and Little Mix – Black Magic will be removed and replaced by:
Pair 2: Beyonce – Brown Skin Girl and The Lathums – I’ll Get By
Pair 3: Arlo Parks – Hope and Harry Styles – Adore You
There are no changes to the other two pairs of music videos.
We have updated our resources in line with the changes to the set products. If you have any questions or feedback about these changes, or need any support please email media@ocr.org.uk.
