No, we don’t insist on a specific number of language and/or structure points in any of our GCSE English Language questions. We recognise that structural features can require lengthier explanations and so it might not always be possible to achieve an equal number of points.
Instead, we always encourage students to take a balanced approach and include points about both language and structure in any questions that require it.
The indicative content in our mark schemes provides specific examples for each of the past papers.
