Cambridge Technicals (2012) Science: What are the adaptations for Summer 2022?

Reduction in assessment for 2022: If teachers need to free up time spent on assessment to help address students’ loss of learning, we will allow a reduction in the number of assessments taken of moderated units. You must still teach all the content for the unit, depending on the guided learning hours (GLH) for the qualification and the unit. We also recommend you and the student consider which units the student may rely on for progression (into higher education for example) when deciding if this adaptation should be used and for which unit(s).There will be no reduced assessment for some qualifications due to their size. The adaptation means that, if required, the number of assessments due to be taken in 22 can be reduced by one or more optional moderated unit, or, where circumstances require it, one or more mandatory moderated unit:

• For students certificating in 22 the reduction in the number of assessments taken can only include mandatory moderated assessment where a qualification only has mandatory units or the student does not have any optional moderated assessments left to take
• For students certificating beyond 21/22 the reduction in assessment of units due to be taken in 2021/22 can only include mandatory moderated assessment where a qualification only has mandatory units. Where the qualification has optional and mandatory units, we expect this group of students will take all mandatory assessments.

Any reduction in the assessment of moderated mandatory units, including if you’re teaching a course with only mandatory units, should be as a last resort. It is only permitted where all other options to complete mandatory unit assessments have been exhausted. 

Unit level adaptations: The adaptations for Summer 2021 have been rolled over into 2022. This is to ensure units take in 2021/22 are possible to complete in the event of any further disruption. The adaptations can be used with all students, no matter which year they complete the qualification. However, these adaptations can only be used for assessments taken during the academic year 2021/22. The suggested adaptations for specific units can be found here.
