Where can I find the process for Cambridge Technicals this summer?
A summary of the process can be found here.
FAQs can be found here.
Can Year 12 (Year 13 in Northern Ireland) be included?
If they are claiming an overall qualification of any size or level this summer they can be included. This may be a smaller size qualification at the end of the first year of a two year course and can be topped up again later.
What about Year 12 not included in the process?
We will not be asking you for unit centre assessment grades or rank orders. We will be able to provide an assessed grade for these students at the point they are due to finish their overall qualification. This will be based on any units completed at that point.
However, we would like to reassure you that, if completing all units as planned is not possible due to workload issues, you will not need to – the student would still get an overall grade next year.
Why are you not collecting unit level centre assessment grades for Year 12s not claiming a qualification this summer?
Our approach is to give students an assessed grade at the point of certification (when they are completing the course). This allows us to use the results for units completed and awarded in 2020/21, the most reliable evidence possible, to determine the final grade.
This approach aligns with Ofqual’s position on maximising the use of the most trusted evidence.
Does this mean we are going to have to complete all units planned for summer 2020 next year?
No, you can continue with your original plans for 2020/2021 and just complete the units planned for next year. Students will not have to complete the assessment for units originally planned for summer 2020 if they are not able to do so due to time and workload issues. This includes any examinations planned for summer 2020.
What about internally assessed units completed or were in progress during Year 12?
- If students had units awarded in Year 12, we will use them towards the grade as normal when the students complete the course.
- If the units are completed but not submitted, they can be submitted at the next available opportunity. Submission of Cambridge Technicals assignments are not time limited and arrangements for moderation in 2020/2021 will be confirmed as soon as we can.
- If units are not complete and you think it best not to complete and submit later, because of pressure that doing this year’s work next year would create, we’ll assess a grade at the point they are due to complete the course, when we have other completed units to base it on so it is as fair as possible for the student.
More details on the process will be available as soon as we can.
