If any of your students use a scribe they are still able to be awarded marks for the SPaG element of the J351 GCSE English Language assessment but in order to do so they must show evidence that they are able to do this independently.
SPaG marks encompass four different elements: sentence structure, vocab choice, accurate spelling and punctuation. In order to be awarded marks for these elements of the assessment any students using a scribe must dictate their writing including their spelling and punctuation to the scribe. Their scribe will be asked to indicate exactly what level of assistance has been provided during the assessment. The examiner will then use this when marking their papers. The overall aim here is to ensure that the marking is as fair as possible for students using a scribe and those who are not.
