When marking students’ answers, for some questions the mark scheme does say we are looking for well-developed lines of reasoning, which are clear and logically structured. Therefore, marks would be awarded for QWC and the criteria is integrated into the mark scheme. We use the knowledge displayed to decide what level the response is, and then QWC determines the mark within the wider level.
On the front of the exam papers we state that “Quality of extended response will be assessed in questions marked with an (*).” In these questions, these are the extended 13 mark answers where we will specifically look at the quality of the response.
This is explained on page 25 of the specification under 'assessment of extended response' The specification is available on Teach Cambridge.
