When assessment cannot be completed, a unit-level Teacher Assessed Grade (TAG) is available for units due to be completed between 1 August 2020 and 31 August 2021.
Unit-level TAGs are available to learners certificating this summer and those who are part way through their qualification but who planned to take assessment for some units by 31 August 2021.
Moderation will continue to be available. Centres should continue to deliver teaching and learning for as long as possible, to cover as much of the qualification content as possible since it is important for progression. We encourage you to continue to complete and submit units for moderation, considering a TAG as a last resort when assessment cannot be completed.
Teacher Assessed Grade Process
Identify the units learners were due to complete between 01 August 2020 and 31 August 2021 and assessment cannot be completed.
Review evidence to support your Teacher Assessment Grades – see the guidance document for more details.
The categories of evidence are (updates since first publication are highlighted):
Units already awarded to the candidate (Banked units)
Centre-marked attempts at the live/practice assessments
Formative assessment results. Formative assessment is defined as assessment undertaken to check learning has taken place and assess progress towards the required level.
Any other work which the candidate has completed towards the qualification (such as work they have done in class or at home independently).
Diagnostic tests (tests which determine the level the candidate is performing at) where there is a close match between the skills being tested through the diagnostic test and the OCR unit. For example a literacy diagnostic test that demonstrates the learner is at Entry 3 for writing skills might support evidence of the learner’s ability to write in short paragraphs.
Learner work demonstrating the skills needed for relevant units that has been completed in support of another qualification.
Create a claim on Interchange in the usual way and include all units you are requesting a Teacher Assessed Grade for in this submission. The person within your centre that has reviewed the evidence should be listed as the centre assessor within the claim.
Complete the Request for Teacher Assessed Grades: Life and Living Skills form and add the claim numbers and the types of evidence used.
Send the form to your Head of Centre to confirm the details and sign (this may be electronic)
Submit your claims on Interchange
Email the Request for Teacher Assessed Grades: Life and Living Skills form, signed by your Head of Centre, to VTQ@ocr.org.uk by 15 September 2021.
The results for TAGs will be processed within 21 days. If we have to contact you for further information or to sample learner work, then the turnaround time may be impacted.
Recording your unit TAG decisions and quality assurance
If we ask you to submit work for external quality assurance you must provide us with information on:
- the types of evidence used to determine the TAG (types are listed in the guidance and above)
- if you are using banked evidence to determine TAGs for other units
- if evidence (other than banked evidence) was produced under supervision
- if the learner usually has reasonable adjustments and if they were applied in the evidence used
- when the latest evidence used to determine the TAG was produced
You may record how you evidenced teacher assessed grades using our form or your own version suitable for your centre. It must be in a format that can be reviewed by others and be able to be supplied to OCR in an electronic format (or be able to be supplied as a scanned copy of a paper document) on request.
