We told you in December 2020 that students are allowed to drop the assessment for one moderated unit for Cambridge Nationals and one or more moderated units for Cambridge Technicals 2012 and 2016. The arrangements for how you make use of this adaptation depend on when your students will certificate (complete the qualification).
For students certificating in summer 2021
The ‘dropped’ unit assessment(s) are now covered by the arrangements for teacher assessed grades (TAGs). You should determine a grade for the whole qualification using the OCR guidance on teacher assessed grades.
- For Cambridge Nationals, if you have not yet entered your students for the unit in question and they are certificating this summer, you will need to enter them now.
- For Cambridge Technicals, you must have a qualification entry (registration) - you do not make separate unit entries for moderated units.
For students certificating in summer 2022
Your students are eligible for a unit level teacher assessed grade for any assessments which they would have planned to take this year (doing the assessment by 31 August 2021). This includes those units where you had originally planned to take the assessment this year but then decided to drop the unit assessment as part of the adaptations we announced in December.
- For Cambridge Nationals, you will need an entry for the dropped unit in the June 2021 series. If you have not yet made an entry for the dropped unit assessment, you can make them between 28 June and 30 July without being charged late entry fees. If you have already made the entry, don’t worry, there is nothing we need to you to do now.
- For Cambridge Technicals, you do not make entries for moderated units. However, please ensure you have a qualification entry (registration).
Can we have unit TAGs and a reduction in assessment?
A TAG can be used for any assessment that was planned to be taken this year and couldn’t be.
This includes units that you planned to not take in 2020/21 after we sent out our announcements about reduction in assessment. You will supply a unit level TAG for it in addition to unit TAGs for any other units planned for 2020/21. We will provide an update on adaptations for 2022 as soon as we can.
If the unit where assessment is being reduced was planned for 2021/22, this is separate to the unit TAG arrangements for the units intended for this year and we will provide more information on these arrangements as soon as we can.
More information on non-certificating students and unit level teacher assessed grades can be found here.
We will be in touch soon to tell you the arrangements for requesting and receiving a unit level teacher assessed grade.
