Following feedback from teachers and changes in education research, we have updated our specification for first teach September 2025 as detailed below:
- Topic 1 – Global Hazards
1.2a - we have replaced the previous theory of ‘convection currents’ with ‘understanding of slab pull and ridge push to show how tectonic plates move’.
- Topic 5 – Urban Futures:
5.2a - we have replaced the term ‘squatter settlements’ with ‘informal settlements’.
- Topic 6 – Dynamic Development:
6.2a - we have replaced Millennium Development Goals with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We have provided clarity around the number of Sustainable Development Goals which need to be taught for the LIDC.
6.2b - we have replaced ‘international aid or debt relief’ with ‘international aid such as debt relief’.
You can read more about these changes in our What’s changed guide and updates for our current GCSE Geography B (J384) qualification.
