We have received a number of questions about what we expect students to do for Task 3: Virtual CAD 3D in Unit R040: Design, evaluation and modelling, which is part of the Cambridge Nationals in Engineering Design. In particular, the questions are about what students are expected to do for the following part of the task:
“use CAD software to demonstrate the model from different viewpoints and with the lights on/off.”
For this part of the task, OCR would expect at least two static images showing the desk lamp light on and off. This type of response completed appropriately is likely to achieve a mark band 3. We will also accept an appropriate:
- Stress simulation image of at least one component of the desk lamp.
- Animation of the desk lamp light turning on and off and/or the light switch shown in the on and off positions.
Please note that students should undertake any one of the three approaches listed in this FAQ and do not need to do all three.
